NoBS Learnings on Our Podcast Launch
When we first sat down to really discuss our expectations and timeline for the podcast, we naively thought we could get things up and going in three to five months. After extensive research (because that is what two type-A personalities do when they embark on something new), we quickly realized that we had to recalibrate our timeline. It’s been quite an enlightening experience these past nine months as we’ve prepped for the official launch of the NoBS Wellness™ Podcast. And while we can’t wait to share the episodes, we each took some time to reflect on this journey so far and share some things that we’ve each learned through this process.
What Nicole has learned
The journey of starting the NoBS Wellness™ Podcast has been exciting, scary, tiring, and invigorating all at the same time. I have worked in marketing for most of my career, and yet one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned so far is how important marketing your business really is – it is a lot different when you start from an audience of 0 vs. a big brand with big marketing budgets. The second lesson I’ve learned is how I like to spend my time. Being a business owner, you do everything from marketing to accounting, and this experience so far has taught me what activities drive me and which ones drain me. And finally, I’ve learned how much fun it is to get to work with your best friend on something you are truly passionate about!
What Shanna has learned
In looking back on the past nine months, I have nothing but sincere appreciation for the support of my family and friends on the podcast. I erroneously learned from bad group project experiences in school and melodramatic fights with my friends growing up that I needed to rely on myself and do most of the work if I wanted things done right. Committing to do this podcast with my best friend has taught me how wrong these beliefs and behaviors were. I have learned that my friends and family are truly my biggest supporters. I was nervous that many of those closest to me wouldn’t understand what Nicole and I were wanting to do with this podcast. And perhaps not everyone understands, but they are all cheering us on. I’ve also discovered that I can trust someone else to help carry the load. I’ve loved every minute of working on the NoBS Wellness™ Podcast, but it hasn’t been easy, and there have been plenty of times that I haven’t been able to do everything that I’ve wanted. And that is where Nicole has stepped in to pick up my slack or to be understanding of why it might take me longer to do the things assigned to me. I still hesitate to ask for help, but I’m getting better at it.
Join us on this journey
As Semisonic so eloquently put it in Closing Time “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” (PS - this quote is also attributed to the Roman philosopher Seneca, but we digress.) This saying could not be more true. The launch of the podcast is really just the beginning of the next step in this journey. We can’t wait to see where it takes us and what other lessons we will learn.
